Startup drinks and other events

So lets talk about events. I recently added a Google calendar to the blog to track local events of interest to the startup community. I opened it up for anyone to add events via a simple 2 step process: 1) send me an email so I can add you to the Google calendar (you will need a Gmail account), 2) add your events to it (only events of interest to the local startup community please). Your events will show up on the blog event page.
I have already added several people and we’ve got a bunch of events on there already.
NEXT STARTUP DRINKS
UPDATE: THIS MONTH WE’RE COMBINING STARTUP DRINKS WITH THE REFRESH MEETING. SAME DATE & TIME, BUT VENUE IS CHANGED TO VIGET OFFICE IN DURHAM.
We had a great turnout last month at the May Startup Drinks. So lets do it again: next one is planned for Thursday June 25th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, at Carrboro Creative Coworking. The format will be mostly similar, although, as promised, we will add a little bit of structure and I expect it to go roughly like this:
6:30 PM – gather, meet & greet.
7:00 PM – welcome and some announcements.
Beyond that the event is really meant to be an informal opportunity for people to exchange ideas and socialize. Let me tip you off on an announcement I plan to make… We are working on a sort-off Startup Weekend on Steroids to take place sometime in the fall. The idea is to take the best from the SUW concept and several other similar concepts (i.e. business case competitions) and change (and grow) it in a way that dramatically increases the chance of business success for the startups launched. Let me stop there and tell you the rest next week.
Finally, a couple comments:
- remember Startup Drinks at is BYOB, so plan accordingly!
- there is another event for entrepreneurs on the same night, so our turn-out maybe smaller. My friend Greg Hyer from LinkingRaleighNC is organizing a “Summer Networking Series: Entrepreneur’s and Small Business Networking” at Mez in Durham. That event is also listed on our event calendar. It will be interesting to see what this does to the Startup Drinks attendance. I think it may have a self-selective effect on the crowd; you know where you need to be! :-).
